AOL, Internet Explorer, and a MacBook Air walk into a bar

Wait, AOL still exists? Apparently it does. The search engine and internet pioneer corporation AOL was in the news on Monday when they told their email customers that many AOL accounts had been hacked. The company urged their customers to change their passwords ASAP. Course, if AOL's customers know how to change their passwords, why are they still using AOL?
Internet Explorer is also arcane and is also experiencing technical difficulties this week. There's a bug in internet explorer that allows an infected email to take control of your computer and allow an outsider to gain access to your computer. Really the only way to avoid this is to realize that it's not 1998 and that there are some excellent web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera come to mind) and that you can switch to them.
It's not all bad tech news this week. Apple Updated their MacBook Air Product line with some minor upgrades. They upgraded the base cpu from a 1.3 ghz dual core i5 to a 1.4 ghz dual core i5 (oh my, huge changes!). All jokes aside, this is not really the interesting part of this cpu change. Intel may have done more power optimizing and battery life could be even better than before. This is speculation of course until a review company like cnet gets a chance to do a battery life test on it. Also Apple dropped the price of each MacBook Air model by $100 so you can now get an 11 inch one for $899 and a 13 inch one for $999.
These are just some interesting stories that stood out to me. I first heard about these stories on cnet as well as just looking at apples website.

Well... I'm back... Whoops...

It's been a very long time since I've posted on this blog and I just recently remembered I'd started one (so much for posting every day). A lot has happened with technology in the past 11 months since I last posted. The Ps4 and Xbox One have been released (I'll talk about them in another post). Apple has released the iPad Air (which is what I'm typing this post on) and they've also released their "budget" iPhone.
Now that I'm back to blogging, or at least trying to be getting back to blogging, I will be posting at least twice a week. I will also be posting videos twice a week over on my YouTube channel YouTube.com/strkilla89 . The contents of this blog will stay the same. I will talk about things that interest me in the tech industry and I hope you all find it interesting too.
Thanks for reading and I will leave you with this epic photo.

Xbox One

Microsoft today announced their new console, Xbox One. The one part refers to the consoles ability to link together all of your entertainment and devices into one place.
The hardware looks nice, and it has 8 gigs or ram internally. Other than that, Microsoft did not answer any of the key questions, namely what will it cost, and when does it come out.
If you want to watch the event go to www.Xbox.com . The event should be watchable soon.

Top 10 DS Games

The Nintendo DS was a very misunderstood game console, and this was, in part, understandable. Nintendo marketed the Nintendo DS at kids, and kids asked their parents for it. Because of this, most of the games, especially in the stores, were tailored towards children. The console had a lot of shovel-ware, and because of this, amazing titles were buried. Today I'll like to deliver a list of my top 10 favorite DS games of all time.

10: The World Ends With You
This game was odd, and because of this disappeared quickly. However, It's uniqueness made it an amazing title to own.

9: Rhythm Heaven
This is a quirky music game. Its tons of fun

8: Super Scribblenauts
This game got more attention than others. In it you have to create opjects to solve puzzles.

7: Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass
This is a legend of zelda game. So its automatically good.

6: Mario Kart
A must-have, Mario game.

5: Etrian Odyssey
This is an amazing rpg. The third one is the best.

4: The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks
Its Zelda...

3: Pokemon (any game)
I'm going to get a lot of hate for placing this game above Zelda, but I think that those games just delivered a lot of content, way more than the Zelda games did.

2: Devil Survivor
I'm covering the whole series here. These games are amazing, and are a rare example of Mature-rated ds games.

1: GTA Chinatown Wars
Its gta, and I'm a hooked fan. All GTA games are amazing and this one is no exception.

Thanks for reading. If you want my top ten psp games, just drop me a comment.

Should You Even Care About Next-gen. Consoles?

I was extremely excited when Sony unveiled the PS4. I was excited to see the console, the controller, and the games. However, at the end of the keynote, I was disappointed for several major reasons.

Firstly, Sony didn't show us the console. Wtf Sony?! And when Sony was asked about this, they replied that they did not think that the console's chassis was that interesting. This is pathetic. Sony should at this point (over 17 years in the gaming industry) know what gamers are interested in. And that happens to be console designs.

Secondly, the controller, to me, is a huge disappointment. As an avid gamer, I play all sorts of games, including hardcore games with a controller and touch-controlled games on my iPhone. I don't want these two games mixed though, and this was my problem with the Vita. Sony added a touch pad to the dualshock 4, so I'm not a happy camper. Camper...COD...get it?

Thirdly, other than the share gameplay functionality, I see nothing new that I actually care about. The graphics look about the same as current ps3 games, maybe slightly better. And the price is not going to be good, knowing how it goes with Sony consoles.

All in all, I think I'll stick with my ps3 for now. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Dust 514 Finally Releasing

An official release date for Dust 514 has been announced and that magical date happens to be May 14. Dust 514 is a console expansion on the Eve Online universe, and has been in open beta for quite some time. I played the game briefly while it was in beta, but due to lag issues I did not enjoy the game too much.

In other news, all Rockstar games are on sale this weekend on Steam. So if you want to play some L.A. Noire or whatever else tickles your fancy check that out.

Resident Evil games are on sale on Psn until Tuesday, so check that out if your a fan of that series. Resident Evil never really did it for me.

As for Xbox Live, there are several smaller sales on Arcade games, but nothing huge this weekend. It seems like ps3 and pc are getting all the good deals lately.

Pickups + Youtube Channel

Today I went to Best Buy, mostly to look at and get a feel for the galaxy s 4 from Samsung. I was pleased with the phone, but did not get to play with it as much as I would have hoped to (many people wanted to play with it).

However, I did pick up several items. Firstly, I picked up an Assassins Creed III shirt. Secondly, I picked up an Uncharted Dual Pack that includes Uncharted 1 and 2 which retails for $29.99. I had never played either game, so I decided I'd get it.
Lastly, they had a Gears of War Judgement poster on sale for a dollar, so I purchased a copy.

I have also started a Youtube channel. You can look me up (strkilla89). I'll be posting videos at least 3 times a week, and they will get better over time. So please drop a like over there on my first video and please subscribe to both my blog and my channel.

I'll be putting up a review of both Uncharted games, as well as Robot Unicorn Apocalypse 2 on May 1st so you can look forward to that.

My Woes With iOS 6.1.3

Yesterday, I installed iOS 6.1.3. Yes, I know, this version of iOS is old news, but I had put it off for a while. And when I finally installed it, I immediately regretted it.
Firstly, the update does absolutely nothing than patch a way of bypassing the lockscreen by making a fake 911 call (don't try this). Other than that, it's the same.
Secondly, battery life is much worse. I had to charge my iPhone during the course of the day, something I never have to do. This was very inconvenient, and reminded me of the old iOS 5 days.
Thirdly, my wifi signal is much weaker. I normally have 3 bars all the time. Now, I just have 1-2. Things load slower on wifi now. This came as a disappointment to me, since I had hoped that Apple had passed this problem.
Regardless, theres nothing I can do. But if you haven't upgraded, I don't really advise it. Just stick with 6.1.2, you'll be fine. I'll keep you posted as to whether it gets better.

New CoD, Swype for iPhone

Two cool pieces of news have just leaked that I thought I might share.
A document leaked stating that the next game in the Call of Duty series will be announced next week. I'm pretty excited about it and will keep you all posted.
The company Nuance, which makes the android keyboard Swype, has been speaking with Apple. It seems that Apple is interested in updating the iOS keyboard in iOS7. It should be interesting to see if Swype is added.
Thats all the tech news for today. Dont worry, there will be more tomorrow, assuming I get up....
